Tōku toa, he toa rangatira

Our kaumātua have spent a lifetime guiding, teaching, and supporting others.

At Kaitiaki Niho, we believe it’s essential they receive the same level of care in return, ensuring they can eat well, speak clearly, and smile comfortably in their later years. We offer targeted outreach to support oranga niho for kaumātua, including low-cost dental check- ups, denture fitting and repairs, and home or marae-based care for those who experience mobility challenges. All services are delivered with respect for tikanga and tailored to ensure comfort and trust.

We also provide wānanga with kaumātua groups on denture care, dry mouth management, and nutrition for oral health, delivered in settings that are familiar—like marae or kaumātua flats. We work closely with whānau and caregivers to make sure oral health can be maintained with confidence and ease, day to day.

By ensuring our elders are supported in this way, we uphold their wellbeing and make it easier for them to stay socially connected and independent, because oral health is not just about teeth, but about maintaining quality of life.
